What Have We Been Up To? (2006-2008)

OK...so I'm new at this blogging thing...so here I go! Here is what our family has been up to since the Scharnick's came to be!

Here Comes the Bride...and Groom!
After over 5 years of finding the right rope, James and I tied the knot on April 8, 2006. It was such a wonderful day filled with so many memories! Our friends and family made it the best reception ever! We honeymooned in Pismo for a week. While we were there we visited San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay, Cayucus, Avila, and Hearst Castle. We were reluctant to return, but were glad to be starting our life together.
Life Goes On...
Over the next year we worked, camped with family and friends (mostly in Morro Bay), played with our niece Madison (lots of great memories made!), and enjoyed our newlywedness. In September 2007 we decided that it was time to purchase our first house! It was fun and nerve-racking to be able to pick out the flooring, counters, appliances, and even the doors (which are my favorite part!) In April 2008 we moved into that house and made it a home. It was exciting to get our keys...we were homeowners! By the way... how many people do you think are in the picture below?

The Stork Does Not Deliver a Baby...
In June 2007 we decided that we wanted to start our little family. Trying to get pregnant could have been a blog in and of itself...have you ever tried to get pregnant? The thermometers, charting, OPKs, pregnancy tests, not having caffiene, alcohol, tuna, or sushi becuase of the chance that you may be pregnant. It should be a full time job! After one heartbreaking miscarriage we found out that we were expecting our first child on James' 27th birthday (March 2008)! We were excited, scared, nervous, and perplexed all at the same time. I imediately re-read all of the pregnancy books that I had (which were purchased by my type-A personality whiole trying to get pregnant). I was going to learn everything that I could so that I would be totally prepared for labor/delivery and being a mommy (yes...you may start laughing...). In the end, we were going to be parents and we did not have a clue as to what the next 9 month would really have in store for us. After feelling like an overdue library book, I was induced on November 7, 2008 and Hayley May graced us with her presence, via emergency c-section, on November 8, 2008 at 12:44 pm. She was 21 1/4 inches long and 8 pounds. Hayley was such a light in our lives when she was born.
She took to nursing right away and I felt such a deep bond with her. A week after she was born she had to have her first "surgery." She was "tongue tied" and had to have it clipped. One of the hardest things that I have ever done was holding her down...she was so little and helpless and just wanted her mommy to hold her. And I did...for a long time...

First Holidays...
Hayley's first Thanksgiving was a blur, considering she was only a 2 weeks old and I was still recovering from my c-section. We spent the day at Gram and Papa's (James' grandparents) and then drove up to Shaver to celebrate with our closest friends, who will be called "the hoodies" from this point on. :)
The holiday season started with the "kids" Christmas party with The Hoodies. Hayley absolutely loved her doll, robe and outfit that she recieved! (kids christmas picture) Hayley's first Christmas was spent at Nana and Pop Pop's (My parents) and Tete and Uncle's (James' sister Rebecca and her husband Bandon). Santa brought her a Glow Worm and her grandparents, aunts and uncles spoiled her with clothes, toys, savings bonds and kisses!!

New Year's Eve was spent at our friend's house, which will be forever known as Lincoln Land. This was one of the first times that I left Hayley (with James) as I went to the Neil Diamond concert with my mom and sister. I missed her so much and gave her a million kisses at midnight!
